Both those that are new to the workforce and those looking to change careers might be interested in finding out the jobs that require a White Card. There are lots of different White Card jobs out there, and many roles require a White Card before you can start work.

Express Online Training offers access to White Card courses for those across the country. Depending on the location, you may even be able to complete your White Card course fully online.

So, what jobs do you need a White Card for? In today’s article we’ll cover a few popular White Card jobs you may come across in various industries. Read on to learn more.

What is a White Card?

Sometimes also called a General Construction Induction Card, a White Card is a certification required for those wishing to work within the Australian construction industry. In order to obtain a White Card, you’ll need to complete a course offered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) such as Express Online Training.

White Cards are now given the same name across all states and territories, however, this wasn’t always the case. For example, in Victoria, the White Card used to be called the red card, in New South Wales it was called the green card, and in Queensland, the blue card. Now the system is nationwide, eliminating possible confusion between the states and territories.

What jobs require a White Card?

Generally speaking, a White Card is required for jobs that take place on a construction site. In NSW, this includes:

  • Tradespeople
  • Labourers
  • Site managers
  • Those that access operational construction zones (when unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
  • Workers who routinely enter operational construction zones for work
  • Supervisors
  • Surveyors

The topics covered in the White Card course are related to safety within construction zones. According to SafeWork SA, the White Card course provides basic knowledge in the following:

  • Work health and safety laws
  • Construction work
  • Common site hazards
  • How to control the associated risks

Upon completing your White Card certification, you should have the skills and knowledge to work safely and confidently within the construction industry.

There are many White Card jobs throughout Australia. Those interested in working within the construction industry may wish to pre-emptively complete a White Card course, to be ready to commence work if and when it becomes available.
