What Jobs Require a White Card?

If you are heading out into the workforce, or changing careers, it’s important to know that some jobs require you to have a white card in order to work. At Express Online Training, we offer White Card courses for Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Depending on the location, you may be able to complete your White Card course completely online. So, what jobs require a White Card? Read on to find out!

What is a White Card?

Sometimes referred to as a General Construction Induction Card, a White Card is needed to work within the Australian construction industry. It can be obtained by completing a course through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as Express Online Training. White Cards are now given the same name across all states and territories, but this wasn’t always the case. For example, in Victoria, the White Card used to be called the Red Card, in New South Wales it was called the Green Card, and in Queensland, the Blue Card.

What jobs require a White Card?

As a general rule, a White Card is required for jobs that take place on a construction site. In NSW, this includes:
  • Site managers
  • Supervisors
  • People who access operational construction zones (when unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
  • Surveyors
  • Labourers
  • Tradespeople
  • Workers who routinely enter operational construction zones for work
The topics covered in the White Card course are related to safety within construction zones. For example, according to SafeWork SA, South Australia, the course provides basic knowledge in the following:
  • Construction work
  • Work health and safety laws
  • Common site hazards, and
  • How to control the associated risks
There are many White Card jobs out there. If you’re looking to work within the construction industry, you may choose to pre-emptively complete a White Card course, in order to be ready to commence work when it becomes available.
